Brrrrrr...it is COLD outside! As I type, the wind chill is subzero in Atlanta. We can barely function when it's freezing, let alone when it feels like it is BELOW ZERO. How is that even possible? Luckily, we got about an inch of snow last night to accompany the cold temps, so the beauty outside takes the edge off (if enjoying from indoors). Since we are in full hibernation mode here, we needed a hearty breakfast to make ourselves feel better. I tried a new combination of fruit and ended up with a fun, new recipe: Slow Cooker Ras-PEAR-y Steel Cut Oatmeal!
This recipe provides a very fun twist, especially if you enjoy a combination of tart and sweet. When you top the oatmeal with a little light brown sugar, the flavors are balanced and you get a little kick of tart, rounded out with a hint of full-bodied sweetness. Adding the brown sugar to each serving lets you control the amount of added sugar in your bowl. Remember, it's always easier to add more sugar than to take too much out of your bowl (in fact, that would be close to impossible).

If you enjoy letting your slow cooker handle the breakfast duties while you sleep, I suggest you also take a peek at my Slow Cooker Banana Pecan Steel Cut Oatmeal. This is a favorite in our house, too!
Stay warm for those of you enjoying the winter months, and until next time, I hope you enjoy your #hearthhealthhappiness!
