Hibiscus Tea with Cinnamon

Floral, fruity, and a hint of spice, hibiscus tea with cinnamon is a delicious drink served either hot or cold. Also known as agua de jamaica when served cold, this drink is thirst-quenching and packed with flavor. This delicious drink is vegan, ready in fifteen minutes, and made with no added sugar!

Ingredients
  

  • 8 cups water filtered
  • 1 cup hibiscus dried
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice fresh
  • ½ teaspoon pure stevia extract

Method
 

  1. Bring water, dried hibiscus, and cinnamon sticks to a boil before reducing to a simmer over low-medium heat. Simmer for ten minutes.
    8 cups water, 1 cup hibiscus, 2 cinnamon sticks
  2. Use an electric kettle to boil the water before adding to the saucepan to speed up the simmering process.
  3. Strain out the hibiscus and cinnamon sticks, pouring the liquid into a separate bowl or saucepan.
  4. Stir in the pure stevia extract and fresh lime juice until the stevia dissolves.
    1 tablespoon lime juice, ½ teaspoon pure stevia extract
  5. Cool and transfer to an airtight container before refrigerating.

Notes

Substitutions
  • If you prefer to use ground cinnamon, substitute the cinnamon sticks with ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon. 
Some of the water will evaporate during the simmering process, leaving a yield of about 6 cups. 
The serving size is 1 cup per person.
Variations
  • Serve hot or cold. 
  • Dilute with more water, if desired. 
  • Adjust seasonings to taste. Add more sweetener, a different fruit (like lemon juice instead of lime juice), and/or include other seasonings, like cloves.
